The container terminals in Rotterdam have a total of 18,500 reefer connections. This is more than anywhere else in the world. Furthermore, Rotterdam’s port has excellent connections, both by sea to the most important producer countries and to the European market of more than 500 million consumers.

The faster fresh products reach the supermarket or the consumer’s plate, the better. The port of Rotterdam excels in terms of speed and reliability. For many intercontinental liner services, Rotterdam is the first port of call in Europe. The port of Rotterdam is very favourably located in relation to the Westland and Barendrecht Greenports and has excellent intermodal connections with other Greenport areas, such as Venlo.

The port of Rotterdam’s position as the European hub for fresh products is reinforced by the Dutch market and trade. After the United States, the Netherlands is the largest exporter of vegetables and fruit in the world.

On the Calandkanaal, at the entrance of the Maasvlakte, the 'Rotterdam Food Hub' rises. The 60 hectare business park will be specially set up to provide optimum facilities for businesses in the agri-food sector.
