Rotterdam Energy Port sustainable powerhouse

Rotterdam Energy Port
In the port of Rotterdam, it all comes together: coal, natural gas, biomass, heat, steam, wind and sun. Rotterdam Energy Port is the North-West European hub for the arrival, production and distribution of energy streams. Originally conventional but quickly in a more and more sustainable mix, ensuring a reduced carbon footprint.

Providing business opportunities
Rotterdam aims to further expand its prominent role as a sustainable European Energy Port. We are taking the lead in this. By creating the space, facilities and circumstances in which energy-related companies are willing to invest. Currently for more than five billion euros.

How to reduce port of Rotterdam emissions

From concept to reality
Port of Rotterdam is on the cusp of developing an extensive network to capture CO2 emissions from its sprawling array of power plants, refineries and chemical plants.

The plan is to use proven gasification technology to convert biomass, refinery residues, coal and other waste streams into syngas, comprising hydrogen and carbon monoxide.

From concept to reality.

Rotterdam Climate Initiative (RCI)

Port of Rotterdam is partner of RCI. In 2010, the Rotterdam Climate Initiative continued to pursue its two main objectives: 50% CO2 emissions reduction by 2025 (as compared with the 1990 levels), and full climate change resilience for the entire region.
