New Northern Sweden container service

In the middle of this month, SCA Transforest is to launch a container service between Rotterdam and Stockholm and ports in Northern Sweden: Sundsvall and Umeå. The service will be operated according to a fixed ten-day timetable. The capacity is a little over 800 TEU per departure.

Stockholm is primarily a destination for imports and could serve to balance out the exports from the ports in the north. The service will first call in Rotterdam on 14 June 2010. The service will visit the ECT terminals, and possibly also the company’s own Interforest Terminal at a later stage. For the time being, Interforest containers will be taken to ECT by freight barge. The Swedish destinations were already offered by SCA using their own ships, to and from their own terminal. However, these ro/ro units have a limited capacity for containers.
