Comparing the 2009 transhipment shares of the main 6 ports in the Hamburg-Le Havre range with those of 2006 it appears that Zeebrugge and Le Havre in particular have made great strides, while Hamburg saw its relevant business nearly halve.

With 2,904,000 TEU, Rotterdam’s number of transhipment container handlings was the largest of all ports, followed by Bremerhaven (2,762,000 TEU). In 2006, Hamburg shifted 3,811,000 transhipment TEU, declining to 2,383,000 TEU in 2009. For the full range the numbers were 11,896,000 TEU in 2009 and 9,854,000 TEU in 2006. The total transhipment share of all 6 ports in the Hamburg-Le Havre range went up by 15% from 31% in 2006 to 36% in 2009 when such handlings totalled nearly 11.9 million TEU. As double handling is involved, this equals a feedering volume of nearly 6 million TEU.
