Bertschi enlarged its terminal in the Botlek area with 15,000 m2, which correspond to an increase in storage capacity of 1,000 TEU. Next to additional storage and handling capacities, a second tilting plant is installed. Bertschi still disposes of a surface option for a large adjacent terrain.
The expansion of the terminal also strengthens Rotterdam as plastics hub and materialises the vision Port of Rotterdam Authority expressed at the start of the terminal. Plastic imports from the Middle East increase gradually, indicating continuous growth of demand for tilting plants. In the future, these will be used for transferring coffee beans and sugar imports from the 20ft-deep-sea-box to the European 30ftliner- box as well.
The trucks are loaded and unloaded on the new premises with a reachstacker. Next to an increase in flexibility on the terminal, transport operations can be supported more effectively in the case of a crane breakdown.
