The Caland Bridge near Rozenburg is a steel vertical lift bridge built in 1969, which is no longer fit for purpose. The bridge constitutes a future bottleneck for traffic by rail, water and road. In 2020, the Caland Bridge will be 50 years old and therefore at the end of its technical lifespan. Combined with the increase in rail, water and road traffic, this means that a structural solution needs to be found. That is why a solution is being sought that can resolve both the lifespan and the capacity problem.
