Euromaxterminal, Port infolink, co-siting, tendering on Maasvlakte II: some examples of successful innovations by the Port of Rotterdam Authority. The Port Authority has a long tradition in the area of research & innovation and the application of innovative technologies and processes. It also has a good reputation in the field of knowledge development in cooperation with the business sector, knowledge institutions and the authorities. As a result the port of Rotterdam has been able to set the tone internationally and has acquired a unique position. As Port of Rotterdam Authority we want to be one of the international leaders and to be well prepared for changes in the world and as Port Authority to be able to respond proactively to new developments in logistics and production chains. Therefore, it is essential to continue to develop knowledge and to promote innovation. Our ambition is to make Rotterdam the centre of port innovation worldwide. The Port of Rotterdam Authority sets the tone by carrying out research and development projects itself more intensively, and particularly in partnership. With the R&D agenda, in which the innovation strategy of the Port Authority has been detailed out, we will in the coming years provide more dynamism and innovation. Investment in knowledge and innovation is a top priority. Together with our clients and knowledge partners we will make Rotterdam the smartest port in the world. |

| An important element of our R&D strategy is to increase to collaboration with universities. In this respect we support several PhD-students, who are performing port-related research. These students have an unbiased view on the developments in the port sector and can develop out-of-the-box ideas and concepts for the future development of the port and the port authority. In April 2007 a group of five PhD-students presented their work during a workshop. The results of this inspiring afternoon are summarized in this report. | Sulphurfree fuels are being used by road traffic for years, but the maritime demand for it has always been too little. On Thursday june the 28th, General Electric (GE) organised its half-yearly customersday in cooperation with the Port of Rotterdam Authority. As the worlds largest company quoted on the stock exchange, GE noticed future changes en chances in ports. And the Port of Rotterdam is recognized as a showcase port for the world! |
