Berths & Facilities
In Rotterdam, you can take berth:
- anywhere the traffic signs indicate you can do so;
- conform the overview of berths;
- with a permit on the basis of the Quay Dues Bye-laws;
- with the permission of the renter or lessee of the site the berth is located on;
- with the permission of the Harbor Master.
For berthing at other locations, you need permission from the Rotterdam Port Authority, marine telephone channel 11.
Unless indicated otherwise, the berths can only be used by inland navigation vessels that actively participate in professional shipping. The captain of the barge must be able to prove this by means of documents such as the sailing time book and such.
The berths can only be used by ships active in the categories that are indicated on the applicable traffic signs and signposting, for example push barges, hazardous materials etc.
At some berths, ships are exempt from carrying lighting. You can find these in the overview of berths.
Depending on the circumstances, the anchorage place or berth may need to be immediately abandoned. This can for example be the case if there is any impending danger, a special transport, the launching of a ship, an event or a change in the purpose of the berth.
City
The city area boasts a great number of berths for the inland navigation sector. Most of these berths are located in the Maashaven. On the outline map of the city area, the berths are indicated with the allowed length and the allowed maximum width of the ships moored at the berth.
The indication at a certain location: L<70, B<35 means that at that specific location, only ships with a length shorter than 70 meters and a width shorter than 35 meters are allowed to moor.
Botlek and Europoort
On these maps, the maximum ship’s length is indicated along with the number of ships allowed to moor there. The various markings printed on the maps indicate the type of ship allowed to moor at this berth.
The indication: 3x >95 therefore means that at that location, ships that are longer than 95 meters are allowed to moor there, with a maximum of three ships in total.
