Rules and regulations

To guarantee a safe, clean and efficient handling of shipping traffic, a number of rules and regulations are in effect in the port of Rotterdam.

Rules and regulations
As is the case on the Dutch inland waterways, the ADNR and the Inland Navigation Police Regulations apply in the port of Rotterdam. In addition to these rules, the Port Bye-laws  Rotterdam, Schiedam and Vlaardingen – the “house rules” of the port – are in effect. Also Announcements to Shipping can be issued.

Permits and exemptions
The Harbor Master can grant exemptions which make it possible to under certain conditions deviate from applicable rules and regulations. Also permits for certain activities such as navigating the petroleum ports can be granted. See below for the application forms for permits and exemptions.

Port tariffs
The port tariffs in Rotterdam are fixed by the Port Management each year. The inland port dues are collected by the Rotterdam’s Tax Department.
