Unique area becomes accessible - 'round trip of port' now also for cyclists

Recently, it became possible for cyclists and pedestrians to sail from Hook of Holland (Berghaven) to the Maasvlakte (DFDS Tor Line) in just twenty minutes. For the time being, a ship with a capacity of 30 persons is being used. On 1 July, a bigger and faster ferry for 130 passengers will start operating. The route will also get extra stops at the Maeslantkering, the Scheurhaven on the Landtong and the Europoort.

The service is designed for the close on 5000 people who work in the area and recreational visitors. The initiators have particularly high expectations of the latter group. The service also opens up a unique area from a tourist point of view.
It is now also possible to make a 'round trip' of the port by bike via the Maassluis ferry. A slightly longer route runs via the more easterly Benelux Tunnel or even the Maas Tunnel (both with separate cycle tunnel). Rotterdam is the only port in the world that is fully accessible for cyclists, often via wide, separate cycle paths. In collaboration with ‘OV-fiets’ and Torpedoloods restaurant, 32 cycles are available for hire in Hook of Holland. The connection is operated by the Rotterdam transport company RET.
