COMPANY PROFILE

The Port of Rotterdam Authority is the manager, operator and developer of Rotterdam’s port and industrial area. The Port of Rotterdam Authority is a public corporation (N.V.) with two shareholders: the municipality of Rotterdam and the State. As is revealed by the statutory objectives, we operate in two domains: shipping and the port area.

Statutory objectives:

  1. to promote the effective, safe and efficient handling of shipping in the port of Rotterdam and the approach area off the coast
  2. the development, construction, management and operation of the port area

Roles of the Port of Rotterdam Authority

1) Port Authority
As manager and developer in the nautical field, the Port Authority ensures that the docks are maintained at the right depth, so that ships can enter the port and moor safely. Port Authority staff in traffic centres and on patrol vessels closely monitor and supervise all movements on the water. This is in order to maintain nautical order.

2) Port infrastructure
As developer and manager, the Port Authority ensures that sufficient space is available for companies in the port. It is for this reason that the Port of Rotterdam Authority supports the construction of Maasvlakte 2. The Port Authority also invests in the improvement and construction of new roads, rail, inland waterway connections and underground pipelines.

3) Port operator
As operator and developer of commercial activity in the port and industrial complex, the Port Authority encourages sustainable economic development. The Port Authority ensures, for instance, that there is an attractive climate for establishing business. To this end, we maintain plenty of contact with politicians and businesspeople both at home and abroad. The Port Authority also undertakes a variety of promotional and marketing activities (such as events and trade fairs) to interest companies in Rotterdam.

Mission and main tasks
As manager, operator and developer of the port of Rotterdam, our mission is:

'The Port of Rotterdam Authority is developing, in partnership, the European world-class port'

The partnership is real. The main partners are companies established in the port or which provide their services. The Port Authority also works closely with the State, the municipality of Rotterdam, local authorities and interest groups.

A world-class European port.
In the coming fifteen years, the port of Rotterdam will continue to grow. More goods will flow through the port, more companies will set up business and there will be more demand for specialised knowledge and services. This is good not only for Rotterdam, but also for the Netherlands and Europe.

Our main tasks are:>

1)To strengthen the competitive position of the port, with a focus on certain sectors. This translates into greater customer satisfaction
2) To provide room for companies so that they can develop further by making better use of the existing space and infrastructure, and to provide extra space in time
3) To at least maintain the level of speedy, safe, clean and secure handling of shipping
4)To create optimum conditions for the development of the port and residential environment (accessibility, labour, safety, the environment, general support)
5) To guarantee a financially profitable and creditworthy enterprise
6)To ensure that the organisation is in top form
