Industry & Bulk Cargo
The Industry & Bulk Cargo department focuses on attracting new companies and goods flows and strengthening existing goods flows in the sectors bulk cargo, shipping, energy and the process industry. One of our main tasks is to enhance the port of Rotterdam’s competitive position as a world-class industrial complex. We do this by promoting commercial activity.

Industry & Bulk Cargo conducts a (pro-)active acquisition and account management policy. Together with its clients from the Rotterdam port business community, Process Industry & Bulk Cargo develops and implements new logistical products and concepts in order to attract businesses or traffic flows. In addition to this, Industry & Bulk Cargo stimulates and intensifies the cooperation with and between the business community in order to improve our position as a quality port. Industry & Bulk Cargo also maintains commercial contacts with tenants and shipping lines regarding land allocation and return, area management and facilities and contract issues, as well as everyday, practical issues.
Industry & Bulk Cargo consists of two line departments and a staff department:
- Energy & Processing Industry department
- Bulk Cargo & Shipping department
- Business Analysis department
The Energy & Processing Industry department focuses on the following market sectors: Chemical Industry (chemicals and vegetable oils including biofuels), Oil & Refineries, Pipelines and Gas & Power (Energy, utilities and LNG – liquefied natural gas). The department is responsible for account management, acquisition, allocation, business development & intelligence.
The Bulk Cargo & Shipping department focuses on the following market sectors: Tank storage and Biomass, Dry Bulk (coal, iron ore and scrap, agribulk and minerals), shipping for liquid and dry bulk (ship’s agents and shipping lines) & services (maritime industry & offshore). The department is responsible for account management, acquisition, allocation, business development & intelligence.
The staff department Business Analysis supports the main Processing Industry & Bulk Cargo department in its task of attracting companies to Rotterdam. This is achieved by analysing trends and developments in the field of cargo flows. Moreover, the staff department also focuses on utilising sector-oriented marketing communication tools, undertaking various marketing and promotional activities and communication on sector and client-bound projects.
