Supervision of transport over water to be further streamlined
The supervision of transportation over water is to be further streamlined in 2009. The inspection services want to reduce the supervision burden by working together more and by better co-ordinating their activities.Co-operation has already been arranged for the inspection of ships’ waste and for environmental inspection of sea-going vessels, and a study has been commissioned on the possibility of a joint risk analysis and selection of ships eligible for inspection.
The inspection of transportation over water is done by twelve enforcement agencies: the Transport, Public Works and Water Management Inspectorate, the Directorate-General of Public Works and Water Management (Rijkswaterstaat), the Inspectorate of Housing, Spatial Planning and the Environment, the Labour Inspectorate, the Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority, Customs, the Phytopathological Department, the Royal Marechaussee, the Water Police, the Rotterdam-Rijnmond Seaport Police and the Harbour Masters of Amsterdam and Rotterdam.
