Heavy Lift & Project Cargo
Project cargo is becoming increasingly larger and heavier. The Port of Rotterdam has the largest fleet of floating cranes in Europe with a lifting power of up to 1,800 tonnes. The specialised terminals are equipped with mobile cranes that can process cargo up to 208 tonnes. Overhead cranes can even lift freight up to 700 tonnes. The terminals also offer 500,000 m2 in storage space in covered sheds up to 23 metres high as well as outside storage.
On Maasvlakte 2, a new area of reclaimed land has emerged on which the Offshore Center Rotterdam (OCR) is being constructed (expected to be operational in 2019). Its location directly by the sea and the large depth at the quays make this location attractive for the transhipment of project cargo.
