Offshore wind is a are rapidly-growing industry. The development and testing of innovations in this sector requires a lot of space. The map provides an insight into everything that Maasvlakte 2 has to offer: thanks to the conditions, the climate and the existing companies and services, Maasvlakte 2 is the ideal location for testing offshore wind facilities. There are a wide range of options on land, in the air and in/on the water. Maasvlakte 2 is exposed to a lot of wind because of its location. In addition, this part of the port of Rotterdam consists of North Sea sand and has a unique offshore borehole that is more than 25 metres deep.
On land: Pile Driving Techniques
The land on Maasvlakte 2 is ideal for testing pile driving and installation techniques, amongst others. There is a large area of land available on Sites E & A. Thanks to the North Sea sand that was used to create Maasvlakte 2, the conditions are comparable to those at sea. The sites can be reached by road and by water.
Water: Cable-laying techniques
On the water, Rotterdam port offers clear water, little or no wave motion and limited currents. There are short-stay and long-stay locations available and the offshore borehole is more than 25 metres deep. The water is suitable for anchor tests and cable-laying systems, amongst other things.
In the air: Turbine testing & Drone testing
Are you looking for a location for turbine or drone testing or do you want to test new types of energy generation? Site E and Site A are ideal for testing in the air. There are large surface areas available and the conditions are comparable to those at sea thanks to the wind and salt levels, amongst other things.
