Portlantis is emerging from the new land of Maasvlakte 2 – a state-of-the-art experience centre where visitors will discover the port as never before. Opening is expected in late 2024.

With 3,500 square metres spread across five floors, Portlantis is set to be a unique, inspiring and interactive exhibition centre and meeting place nestled within the port. The arrival of Portlantis marks the closure of FutureLand.

In Portlantis you’ll discover and experience the complex and dynamic world of Europe’s largest and most state-of-the-art port. Expand your understanding of the port’s significance for society, our economy, the living environment and yourself. It imagines what the future could look like, reveals ongoing innovations and exciting developments, and explains major changes, such as the energy transition and digitalisation, in an appealing and understandable way.

EIC

Portlantis is also the new home for EIC Mainport Rotterdam (EIC). This educational information centre receives pupils and students, and organises excursions to introduce them to the port of Rotterdam in an inspiring way.

In addition to the exhibition aimed at the general public and educational target groups, enterprises – both port-based and beyond – may use the new port experience centre’s outstanding facilities.

Panoramic

Portlantis offers space for a permanent exhibition over multiple floors, conference facilities, a shop and hospitality options. The large panoramic roof gives you 360-degree views of the surrounding port activities and a great vista out to sea. The new building gets its own wind turbine and solar panels, and walkways, roads, parking spaces, an events plaza and outdoor grandstand seating will surround the building.

MVRDV

Kossmanndejong is designing the interior and the exhibition. The building was designed by the architects at MVRDV, famous for icons of the Rotterdam skyline, such as De Markthal and Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen, as well as countless other structures around the world. G. van der Ven B.V. contractors was commissioned by the Port of Rotterdam Authority to build Portlantis.
