Infectious Diseases

In compliance with the Public Health Act, a notifiable infectious disease should be reported to the Municipal Public Health Services Rotterdam-Rijnmond (GGD). In the event of an infectious disease, the Harbour Coordination Centre always notifies the GGD Rotterdam-Rijnmond.

At the Outpatient Department for STDs of the Municipal Public Health Services Rotterdam-Rijnmond (GGD) you can have yourself tested free of charge and anonymously for sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).

Tuberculosis

For consultations or routine chest X-rays and Mantoux tests, you can make an appointment on Monday-Friday (except Wednesday) from 08:15-12:00 and from 13:15-15:00 (for seamen until 16:00). Wednesday open only to seamen.
For Mantoux tests a second visit is required after 3-5 days.

For ships outside the port

Netherlands Radio Medical Service

The Netherlands Radio Medical Service (RMD) of the Royal Netherlands Sea Rescue Institution (KNRM) is manned by five doctors. They can be contacted for medical advice by ships at sea through the Netherlands Coast Guard Centre (KWC) and can make contact with the patient within ten minutes.

  • Please make non-urgent requests for advice between 06:00 and 20:00 UTC
  • Requests by mobile phone to the Netherlands Coast Guard Centre: +31 88 - 958 4020.
  • To improve the quality of the Radio Medical Service it is important that, after the request has been handled, the doctor receives feedback from the ship concerning the advice given.

VHF (DSC)

Coverage: sea area Netherlands A1

  • Call the Netherlands Coastguard Centre (NLCG) via VHF DSC channel 70 (MMSI 002442000) or VHF channel 16.
  • Clearly state your ship’s name and/or call sign and position, and ask for medical advice.
  • The NLCG will direct you to a working channel. For VHF this will be channel 23 or 83.
  • Switch to the given working channel and remain on standby. The NLCG will put you through to the RMD doctor on duty.
  • The doctor needs clear information. Using the Radio Medical Advice questionnaire (viz. International Medical Guide for Ships) as a guide line will ensure this.

MF (DSC)

Coverage: Sea areas Netherlands A1 and A2

  • Call the NLCG via MF DSC 2187.5 kHz (MMSI 002442000) and switch over to MF 2182 kHz.
  • Clearly state your ship’s name and/or call sign and position, and ask for medical advice.
  • The NLCG will direct you to a working channel.
  • The NLCG transmits on channel 2824 kHz and receives on 2520 kHz or transmits on channel 1890 kHz and receives on 2045, 2048, 2049, 2051, 2054 or 2057 kHz.
  • Switch to the given working channel and remain on standby. The NLCG will put you through to the RMD doctor on duty.
  • The doctor needs clear information. Using the Radio Medical Advice questionnaire (viz. International Medical Guide for Ships) as a guide line will ensure this.

To call the Netherlands Radio Medical Service, log into Stratos (formerly Xantic). Make sure your equipment is tuned to this station.

Request procedure

  • Contact Stratos (formerly Xantic) by entering code 012, taking care to follow your Inmarsat Terminal instructions.
  • Select priority code:

Code 32 = MEDICAL ADVICE
Code 38 = MEDEVAC (evacuation)
 The Netherlands Coastguard (NLCG) will always leave the decision on whether evacuation is necessary to the RMD doctor.

  • Give the NLCG watch officer your ship’s name, call sign, Inmarsat number and position.
  • You will be connected to the RMD doctor on duty.
  • The doctor needs clear information. Using the Radio Medical Advice questionnaire (viz. International Medical Guide for Ships) as a guide line will ensure this.
