Hydrogen in Rotterdam
The Port Authority is working with various partners towards the introduction of a large-scale hydrogen network across the port complex, making Rotterdam an international hub for hydrogen production, import, application and transport to other countries in Northwest Europe. The hub will also enable Rotterdam to maintain its position as important energy port for Northwest Europe in the future.
The role of hydrogen is growing. In addition to replacing natural gas to generate heat in the process industry, hydrogen is becoming a building block in sustainable chemistry to make products. Furthermore, hydrogen is developing into an important energy carrier in aviation and shipping, for heavy road transport and for heat supply in households and greenhouses.
Europe's Hydrogen Hub
Welcome to the port of Rotterdam. Welcome to the city of Rotterdam. Welcome to the province of South Holland. Welcome to Europe's hydrogen hub. The cooperation between the province, the municipality, the port, InnovationQuarter, Rotterdam Partners and the Economic Board Zuid-Holland shows that the entire region is committed to becoming the hydrogen hub of Europe. This is one of the pillars under the port's strategy to be circular and CO2 neutral by 2050.
Plans include setting up a first-class hydrogen chain, with projects focused on large-scale green and blue hydrogen production, imports and related infrastructure. Meanwhile, hard work is being done to achieve this in the port of Rotterdam.

Hydrogen Hub in Rotterdam
The advantages of establishing a hydrogen hub in Rotterdam are many. Large-scale use of hydrogen in industry can considerably reduce carbon emissions. A hydrogen network will also enable the port to continue to play a leading role internationally, as well as remain the motor of the national economy.
